Salem Staff

Pastor James Bare

     Pastor Bare graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1980 with a Masters of Divinity degree.  He has been a pastor at Salem Lutheran Church since 1998, and also teaches Catechism class and acts as a spiritual advisor to several different groups.  Rarely seen without a smile, he and his wife of forty years, Patricia, have been blessed with nine children of their own.

Mr. Tony Perry, Principal 
7th-8th Grade

  

     Mr. Perry grew up in Chesaning, MI.  He attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI, graduating in 1989.  In 1994, Mr Perry graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in new Ulm, MN with a Bachelors in Science and Education.
     After graduation he was assigned to East Fork Lutheran School, teaching grades 5-6 and serving as Athletic Director.  Mr. Perry served at East Fork for six years, serving as principal for the last four of those years.  He and his family moved to Fort Worth, TX in 2000.  He served at Immanuel Lutheran School for four years before moving to Owosso. He has been the principal and the 7th-8th grade teacher since 2004.

Mr. Edwin Voeltz
Athletic Director, 5th-6th Grade


     Mr. Voeltz graduated from DMLC in 1979 . He was assigned to serve as a tutor at Michigan Lutheran Seminary for two years where he taught Algebra. After two years at MLS, he received a call to teach 6th grade at Salem. He has served our school and church for thirty-five years. He currently teaches 5th-6th grade, coaches several sports, and is our Athletic Director.
Mr. Greg Milbrath, Band Director, 3rd-4th Grade

     Mr. Milbrath grew up in Milwaukee, WI, where he was baptized and confirmed at Siloah Lutheran Church. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran High School, graduating in 1974. Mr. Milbrath attended Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, graduating in 1976 with an Associate of Arts degree. He then attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Mr. Milbrath pursued a Master’s degree at Michigan State University where he was awarded a Master’s of Arts in Education/Curriculum and Instruction, in 1983.

     In June of 1978, upon his graduation from DMLC, he was assigned as teacher and band director at Salem Lutheran School. The 2017-2018 school year will mark his 40th year in teaching. Mr. Milbrath was an avid band member at WISCO and DMLC, as well as performing with the Wisconsin Lutheran Adult Band in Milwaukee. He is very passionate about band and greatly enjoys directing the band at Salem. Mr. Milbrath and his wife, Cynthia, were married in 1981. They have been blessed with three children: Marshall (Gwyneth), and twins, Loren and Meredith. As parents who put great value on Christian education, their children all attended Salem Lutheran School, Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI, and Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN.
Mrs. Pamela Perry
1st-2nd Grade


     Mrs. Perry graduated from DMLC in 1993. She taught 1st grade on the Whiteriver Elementary School in Whiteriver, AZ for five years. In 2004 she taught 1st grade at Salem for a year. She received a call to teach 1st-2nd grade at Salem Lutheran School in 2012. She directs Salem’s Children’s Choir, which is made up of Salem’s 1st-4th graders and assists with cheerleading.
Mrs. Tonyia Besko-Aschenbrenner

Preschool-Kindergarten

     Mrs. Besko-Aschebrenner graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary special education, and later went on to receive a master’s of arts degree in special education.  She taught in special education in public schools for eight years, before serving as a preschool and kindergarten teacher at Salem beginning in the 2016-2017 school year.
     Married, and the mother of four children herself, Mrs. Besko-Aschenbrenner has a wide variety of interests ranging from cooking and reading, to hunting, sports, and gardening.  In addition, she has also co-coached girls’ basketball, assisted in taking stats for volleyball and boys’ basketball, been the PTO treasurer, and helped serve lunch in the kitchen at Salem.

Mrs. Kelly Lahaine

     Mrs. Lahaine has served as our preschool aide since 2016.
