Musical Groups

We believe that part of a well-rounded Christian education includes music. From an early age, our students are taught to appreciate music and learn how to use it to praise the Lord.  Salem is blessed with a very talented staff and is able to offer two band programs and two choirs, in addition to classroom choirs.  Salem students establish a solid foundation in music with frequent practice and performances both in church and at school.  Graduates of our programs often go on to excel at local and area prep school bands and choirs.  Some former members have even graduated from college with music degrees or have become directors themselves.

Our Children's Choir is made up of students in grades one through four.  Here, students learn basic music theory in order to use their gifts to sing praises to their Lord.  The choir sings during church services and also performs in winter and spring concerts.

The Junior Choir is a voluntary choir that allows fifth through eigth grade students to further develop their vocal abilities.  Junior Choir members practice during regular school hours twice a week.  They perform in winter and spring concerts, a spring music festival, and numerous church services throughout the year.

The Salem Lutheran Cardinal Band performs at numerous functions such as concerts, pep rallies, girls’ basketball games, a music festival, and marches in the Owosso Kids in Curwood Parade. Students usually begin playing their instruments in fourth grade. Once the students enter fifth grade they participate in in a Fifth Grade Ensemble. Then in sixth grade they enter Cardinal Band which consists of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. The goal of our program is to give our students the tools necessary to successfully participate in high school bands and beyond.
